Pro One Media Productions is like any other small business, we are trying to make a difference. But, we all get so caught up in what we do each day that sometimes we forget that there is a whole world out there. That was happening to us. That happens in all phases of our lives.

Since this is a business blog, let’s talk about our businesses for a minute. We are all about the bottom line and production, forecasting, employees, etc.

                            STARS

An opportunity presented itself to us a couple of months ago, STARS (Scottsdale Treatment and Rehabilitation Services) came to us looking for someone to do a photo montage of their clients and staff. We are a video production company and have cameras and lights so we could go one better. They were looking for our help for a benefit dinner to show what they give to the community.

It was a great opportunity for us to give a video and highlight the non-profit and the people that they serve.

For me, it was a tear jerker. I am sure it will be for you too! Take a look and tell me what you think.

Video is an everyday occurrence; we are used to clicking the arrow and watching dogs bark, kids talk and occasionally a really good promotional video. We are in the age of spontaneity as well information now. All video does not have to be expensive. Take a look at the video we did for Encore Creative Wedding. It is well written and delivered in a way that the audience will watch and listen. It was done under budget and on time.

Pro One Media was asked by Encore Creative to produce a 30 second commercial for their wedding division for local television. Encore Creative has many photos of past events and wanted to show the audience what they have done and the possibilities. An excerpt of “Everyday Walk” by Jerry Donato is the background music. It all came together, a script was then written and voiceover talent was decided on.
Pro One Media went to work and created a commercial spot that is affordable and hits the mark. You be the judge.

When deciding to create a video for your business remember that you will probably use it for the next 4-5 years. Avoiding common mistakes could be the difference between success or failure. I have said it before, plan, plan, plan. Do your homework upfront so you are happy with your finished video. I have created a list of common mistakes that will help you in the success of your video. Video is very important in today’s marketing strategy and everyone will need to know the mistakes that could be avoided.

1. Not clear on your audience. Define who you are trying to reach and build your video to attract that audience. You may need more than one video on the same topic if your product or service attracts more than one demographic. Ie retail and wholesale.
2. No definite purpose. Know what you are trying to say. Tell a story that is compelling but to the point. If you haven’t gotten their attention in the first 15 seconds, you will never get the message to your potential customer.
3. Winging it. This never works. In order to be compelling you have to write a script. Write your story, so you can tell your story. This is probably the most important task in producing your video. A Teleprompter may be the way to go. Your spokesperson can deliver all your key points in a precise and professional manner.
4. Don’t forget the creative aspect of your video. A video that effectively delivers your message requires an understanding of the message, the audience and the objective. A good production company will get to know you and your business before starting your video. This may take time on everyone’s part; a good production company will visit you and talk to all involved to understand your business.
5. Putting audience to sleep. Keep it short and to the point. There is nothing worse than going on and on. Do Not describe every aspect of your business, keep it short and sweet (about 3 minutes) Pick the top 3 key points and deliver them well.
6. Not allowing enough time to plan for success. Planning will be the make or break of your video. Just because you have one produced doesn’t mean it is watched. Comedic relief is good but beware that this is some of the most difficult lines to write and deliver. If done well, you are a hero, if not, you are just a clown. So, hire the experts and spend the time to make your video a success.
7. Do not decide on your video solely on the price. Of course, price is always an aspect of your decision; however, you get what you pay for. Remember you are looking for return on investment. Lower price doesn’t always produce the best value. Do your homework, know your audience and your message and keep true to the objective.

I just read a great article on Hubspot by David Guerrera that was “Spot On” It was talking about ways to make your video more watchable. The bottom line throughout the article is Plan, Plan, Plan! A finished video may look like it was shot at random but I can guarantee that there was a lot of thought that goes into a successful video.

Start now preparing for 2012. Let’s be ahead of the curve and have video in the “can”. If you are looking to beef up your website and/or marketing campaign in 2012, now is the time to start the process.

Here are a couple of highlights from the article:
Video content can be a valuable asset in your inbound marketing content mix. In fact, by 2013, 90% of internet traffic is expected to be video. But getting people to sit through your videos can be challenging, considering 33% of viewers say “no thank you” and move on after watching just 30 seconds. 44% lose interest and leave at the 1-minute mark, and 60% bail on your video after 2 minutes.
Pre-Production
Be well prepared and organized for your video shoots. If you show up to your shoot unorganized and decide to “wing it,” your final product will look unprofessional and sloppy. On the other hand, if you’re prepared, you’ll be able to focus your efforts on directing your actors rather than figuring out last-minute logistics. Time is of the essence, so don’t waste hours trying to figure out which angle you want or what line needs to be delivered next. Know exactly what you want before the day you film.

Today, I want to show you what we have been up to at Pro One Media Productions.

We were asked to do a video for Moto Crate. It is a cool way to ship your motorcycle. Take a look at the video and tell me what you think.

When you are checking out the video, make sure to notice how it was shot and edited.
Our cameraman made sure that all views of the crate were taken and that it was easy to see how to load your motorcycle. All the motivating words come on the screen as the talent talks about it. This helps for the customer to see as well as hear the information. It’s concise and to the point.

Video is all about how it’s shot and edited. You could have a great product but if you don’t tell the story quickly and to the point, it will never get heard. I know I have talked about this before but pre-production is the most important part of the video process. Spend the time up front and it will pay when you have completed your video! Prepare a good script and it will work for you. Every shot will be listed and all the narration to go with it. You sure don’t want to forget something and realize it after the fact.

A good video production has a great message with a call to action in a concise manner.

Anyone that has had the pleasure creating a video understands what it takes to make the subject interesting and looking good. There are a lot of things that go into a good video and the most important one for me is planning.

If you decide you need video on your website Monday and shoot on Tuesday, I can pretty much guarantee that it will not be an effective marketing tool for you. Full feature films don’t happen in a week and a good marketing plan that includes video doesn’t either.

Making the decision to do video is a difficult one to make. Most small to mid size businesses have not been involved in making a video. It is all foreign to you. Where do I start?

Take a look at this video, it is some of Pro One Media’s behind the scenes. It gives you and idea of the equipment and manpower it takes to shoot a video. Enjoy

Here is a short synopsis of your next steps.

Know the market you are targeting.
Know what your message is going to be.
What is the media that you plan to distribute this video.

Then…..

Write a script (dialog and movement and locations). . . should be left to the professionals.

Hire the talent, in the event that an employee or owner doesn’t want to be on camera.

Shoot the footage.

Review the footage and start the editing process.

Finish edit and deliver completed video

This all may sound somewhat difficult; however, Pro One Media Productions can help you through the process. This is what we do. After you determine the first three objectives, we can come in and interview you as a client and together we can come up with a plan. At this point, a script is then drafted. Script writing is probably the most important part of the planning stage. Make sure that you are giving out the correct message. Again let the professionals help you with this. Too much detail is not good as well as not enough. You want your video to be informational but also stimulating. Your potential customer should be wanting more.

Video editors are truly the unsung heros of the video world. True, the Producer and Director tell everyone what and when to do things, but the editor is the guy who puts it all together. To make a well produced video, you marry together many components: footage, voice over, beauty roll, stills, logos and animation. A good video editor makes it all look seamless and easy but it takes a lot of skill and vision. I have attached an article ffom CNN ireport that talks to this issue. Take a look, you will be surprised to understand what an editor can do.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/IREPORT/09/09/edit.video.bootcamp.irpt/

Pro One Media has editors that think the process through. We study the script and make sure that what the customer is looking for actually gets in the video. Just because you have purchased a program doesn’t mean you know how to use that program. I have said it before and I will say many more times, video production takes a village to produce!

As you decide that video is right for your business, Pro One Media Productions can help you through the process. Video production can be fun and exciting, let Pro One Media help you today.

Our demo reel shows a glimpse of what great editors can do for your next video. Never underestimate the value of editing!

Let the Production Begin!

At Pro One Media Productions we know that this is probably your first experience into video production. We want it to be something that you will talk about fondly and want to do over and over. I will stress again that it is all in the planning. All the work we have done before in pre-production is so important and can not be rushed. We all want the same thing; that your video hits the mark and is effective for your business.

This is the fun part; you get to see what your hard work looks like. If you have done your homework and have hired the right production company, this will be so exciting that you will want to do many more videos for your company. Let’s get the camera rolling!

Step One – Scheduling

The completion date of your video should be specified in your contract. However,
this time frame is usually negotiable. It is to the video production company’s
advantage to deliver the video to you as soon as possible, but they should resist
sacrificing quality or effort in order to deliver the video prematurely. If you have a
specific deadline for the completion of your video, you should allow two to three
months for the total production. In other words, plan ahead.

Step Two – Approvals and Revisions

Remember though that revisions made too late in the game can be costly.
We recommend that you consider changes or revisions while the video is still in
paper form as an outline or script. These revisions cost you nothing and are
easily accomplished.

The rough-cut edit is the first video assembly of the production in continuous form. Revisions and suggestions are still fairly welcome at this point, because changes to the rough-cut edit are still relatively easy to make.
Once the final editing has begun, however, revisions to the video will be time consuming and costly.
It is most important to evaluate the flow of the video, and how easily it gets your message across. Also, verify that the statements and ideas presented in the video are factual and best represent your company.

Step Three – Your Completed Video Production

Rough-cut editing is often performed with temporary titles, narration and other
elements to judge the structure and flow of the video. When this version of the
video is completed and approved, more polished titles, special effects, music,
and narration are produced and rendered in the fine-cut edit. This finished video
is transferred to a Digital Edit Master. You will use this Master to run duplicate copies as well as posting on various websites and social media sites.

The first one is an opening video. It teases you and prepares you for the video to come.

The second video is RS Warbirds promotiional video of the Shorts Tucano T-MK 1 plane. It is 8 minutes long but trust me even if you know nothing about planes, you will love the videography. This is a great video.

The Pre-Production Phase of Video Producing

In my last blog we talked about planning your video and in doing so, you have to do more homework to assure that your video hits the mark. You must also decide on the production company to use and creating an outline for that company to produce it is paramount. Plan, Plan, Plan.

Of course, we want you to use Pro One Media Productions, but most of all we want to you to have a finished video that hits the mark. Check out the info below, it will help you in your process.

Step One – Selecting the Video Production Company

The initial consideration of a production company is often determined through one of three ways:
1) By Recommendation.
2) By Reputation
3) By Trial and Error.

Consider the creative ability of the video production company.
Do they possess the ability to produce a quality video that will get your message across?
Do they understand the purpose of your video?

Lastly, consider the personal rapport between you and your potential video production team. You will spend a lot of time together and it is always more fun if you get along.

Step Two – Developing an Outline

During this phase, the production team will likely ask for statistical information on
your company. They will also ask to talk to different corporate executives, as well as visit your location. By doing so, they will obtain a first-hand opinion of what your company does, how it does it, what makes it special, what is its point of view in the business.
The research and development period will require your cooperation in order to assure a successful video production.

At the completion of this crucial phase, you will receive a complete outline from the production company. This outline requires your concentrated attention. Now is the time to make revisions and offer suggestions. Your production company should work closely with you during this time to insure that your outline is a good one –and that it fully demonstrates your company’s policies and views.
An outline should remain flexible. It is simply a good starting point for the ideas and message that the video will communicate. Ultimately, the outline should guide the video, rather than limit it.

Step Three – Budgets and Contracts
In this step, the production company should present you with a budget based on your approval of the outline. Be sure the budget includes all aspects of the of the production, such as music licenses, talent, location fees, etc. The budget should be all-inclusive.

Most of your budget will be spent on services. The only tangible item you are purchasing is a Video Master and the right to reproduce it as often as you’d like.

Pro One Media Productions is happy to help you through all of these phases.
